Rear parcel shelf liner.

I am about to replace the rear parcel shelf liner on my MK2, the current panel is secured with two rivets to the supporting body panel below it, is this how the panel would have been secured originally, if not how?

On mine it was two rivets at the rear and held down at the front by the rear seat overhang. The rivets had obviously(?) been put in before the rear screen had been fitted because I couldn't drill them out from above

Thanks Peter
The two rivets in the rear of my liner panel are at 33" centres and set in from the rear curved edge 1/2", are these rivet positions similar to those in your car?
My rear screen is out at the moment but I see what you mean about how difficult it would be to drill out the rivets with the screen fitted.

Cant answer the 33"centres question John as I've already long binned the original. I didn't re-rivet the trim section in place. The front part is held down by the seat upright and I stick the rear section down with a small strip of double backed carpet tape where the original rivets would have been.

Highly offensive to the rivet counters

i was thinking exactly the same when I wrote it Robin! Engineering types are n generally big fans or pop rivets but a bit academic here of course.
Busy curing an occasional rotary metallic sound from the front of my 2001 RCSport. Stone caught inside disc shield. Shields removed, stone flicked clear, shields cleaned and put away as they serve no useful purpose. Hope other forumers are up to their elbows in dusty bits........

I have two here. One is a 65 MK1 with the rivet holes drilled at 27" and the other is my 68 MK2 and the original rivet holes are drilled at 32-3/16"

Just measured my 66 mk1 and the rear rivets are 27" centres.

So it’s later the car, the wider the centres, mine is the 69 version.
Does your MK2 rear shelf liner panel have the plastic skin on the underside?

Likely yes, because the MK2 had the wider rear screen.
My MK2 panel doesn't have any plastic, just leathercloth over fiberboard.
