Hi all,

I've had a good root through the search function but i have a specific question about the number of keys a Mk2 should have. The original handbook supplied with the car says the same key should operate the door locks, boot lock AND ignition switch, but on here seems to imply they could be different?

My Mk2 has a matching door locks / boot lock key but a different (and quite worn/rattly) ignition key. Are there recommended specialists who can supply a new ignition switch and key, to the same key number as the door / boot lock? This way i'd have a single key and a quiet ignition barrel!

The door/boot key i have has an FS*** number on it, is that classed as the key number for identification purposes?

The Mk2 did indeed come with matching door, boot and ignition keys in the FS series and two keys. But, alas, the alloy housings (as opposed to the key barrel (as opposed to the actual key barrel) meant that they were well worn within 3 weeks or so, so most keys would slip in and open the door.

Added a bit later..... The 5x brass spring loaded 'sliders' inside the key barrel are what give the number identity to the key. But, there were 6 variables of the sliders available to Wilmot Breedon the makers. whereas the FS or FB or whatever, give the end elevation format of the key. In theory, the any 5 from 6 option multiplied by any sequence made the lock pretty good. Good lock, crap material!

Not Mk2 nor British Mini related - but I was pretty surprised when I noticed the one FS-key came with my half dismantled '72 Inno Cooper was still the original one that matched all 3 locks!
