Managed to get the front and rear screens in, WD40 trick and both in within 30mins!
So.....
After spending a lot of time YouTubing, googling etc... can anyone give me a robust way of getting the chrome fixing strip in on both front and rear rubbers?
To add, I have the wire tool with the wheel on.
Any help before I royally f&*k it up!
TIA

I use this one Drew
http://www.minispares.com/product/Class ... o%20search
Soap the rubber up (not washing up liquid). Wiggle the tool in (

) at the top centre and feed one end of the trim in (making sure its a nice clean straight end). Then slowly pull (wriggle) the tool along and guide the trim into place at the same time. Be careful that the trim is going fully into the seal both sides. Going around the corners is more tricky. Keeping the rubber lubed up is the key.
Once round the top to meet up with the beginning put a piece of thin wood under the trim and use a sharp craft knife to push through the trim to cut to length. Then feed in with a small thin screwdriver to finish. Any bits that have not fed in, you can feed in with the screwdriver but be careful not to cut the rubber.
Wont pretend its easy but once you have done one and mastered it, it's not too bad.
If I was closer to you, I'd come and do it for you.
Hope that helps
Andrew

Really, putting that filler strip in is a bit of an art. If you were doing an old maestro or the like in your drive and you weren't too worried about the tool slipping off at a tangent and........ But yours ain't like that Colonel. I'd be using the well tried 'one-finger' method in this case because you can't afford to slip. Go to the phone, and use one finger on the dial to ask the mobile windscreen man to call round

just put a thin smear of silicone lubricant on the inside of the rubber groove all the way round and the same on the chrome trim , the stuff plumbers use for easing the joints on 4 inch drainage pipe the excess just cleans off with a cloth did each window in about 10 to 15 mins each hope this helps

Never fit a screen rubber or filler strip on a cold day ..Try not to stretch the filler strip as it goes around the corners .. then I always cut off the filler strip end just a bit too long and feed the overlength that will fit back into the void .. this will give a bit of spare filler strip length when the shrinkage starts as i do not want to see a shrinkage gap in a couple of years time.
me a big fan of MS parts but not their windscreen filler strip as it somehow crazes in my cars.. there was another topic on this subject no so long ago.

It has been a while and I wonder what condition the rubber is in? As WD40 has a reputation to swell (damage) rubbers over time.

BEST lubricant to use when working with rubber........ Don't laugh......... It's a tube of KY Gel. It's made for the job. Just ask the wife or get a tube from the chemist.
I was going to say that all of my bushes have been lubricated with it but will leave it at that. But seriously, it is the best lube for the job

would a smear of red rubber grease be better than WD40 then?

Think i fitted some 30-40 screens. Every time with screen wash.
It's a thing of less than 5 minutes

Me use Silicone Grease for anything made of rubber or plastic & also works on Newton Trim Door Cards to ease insertion ..
Silicone Grease is also good on Window Glass sliders when they are a bit tight, also used on the Orange Crank Seal worked a treat .

Many thanks for advice.
After a bit of thinking time, it went relatively well albeit a few bits that needed pushing in with the tool.
I used WD40 on the seal, which I probably soaked a bit to much, just a mild coating would have done, the glass slipped in well with the use of some slimline plastic tyre pullers for the push bike.
The chrome trim went in by rubbing some red rubber grease in, then pushed the roller tool around, guiding the trim as you go around (the trim will try and twist a bit and I am sure a second pair of hands to guide would be ideal)
Block of wood and a sharpe knife I trimmed the overlap off and pushed in.
A good clean down with some autoglym tar remover and Glass polished has done the trick.
On the rear screen tomorrow night.
Thanks again all.
As ever invaluable advice when needed.

I can sense the relief from here - looks good
How much overlap did you leave for that final push in?

Hi Andy
I ended up cutting the over lap straight over so it fits flush / butts up. If and when it moves I will probably fit the cover piece but for now I think it looks ok without.
