Removing Gearbox End Cover in Situ

Is this viable if I undo and remove the LH engine mount and jack the engine up?
I suspect the pinch bolt on the remote selector shaft lever has come loose so I was wondering if I can access it without removing the unit.

The selectors on top of the diff housing?
Both bolts can be accessed and tightened from above.
No need to undo the engine mount. Take the carb/manifold off helps.
Or are you talking about the selectors inside the gearbox?
Engine out, gearbox off engine and gearbox stripped to fix that problem.

I've never had an end cover off insitu but I'd imagine it's feasible. You'll probably have to remove the studs from the end of the box to remove the end cover.
I think 850man is talking about selector fork bolts which obviously requires gearbox strip down.
What's the issue you have?
I've had 3rd/4th selector fork come loose on a 3 week old silver seal gearbox in the past.

The problem is too much sideways movement in the lever while in gear so in/out movement of the selector shaft into the gearbox.
Good point about the studs.
I’ll have a go and see what happens.

I think 850man and Lakeland997 are talking about the remote control levers that can be accessed from above in the engine bay, as 850man describes.

I had to investigate a jammed reverse selector fork in my (rebuilt) gearbox a couple of years ago. I attempted to remove the gearbox end cover in situ and I can attest that it is theoretically feasible. However, if you can't get the studs out (as I couldn't) you will need to lift the engine and box out anyway.
In hindsight, I would just hoist the lump out straight away - the whole operation is quick and easy once the engine and box is out on a stand where you can see into the gear case.
