What temp should I bake / cook my discs? Ideas asap please

I’ve done all the painting on the discs now and the heat resistant paint needs curing in the oven. The wife is out until noon and a test shows they’ll fit in OK.

What temperature should I set the oven too do you think?

Appreciate responses ;-)

As for me you should cook it to 90° celsius for 2 hour, this how I bake wrinkle paint

I was wondering what sort of temperatures brakes get to , to give me some idea how much to bake the paint at, as recommended by the paint manufacturer (it can cope up to 400F)

It won’t work in an electric oven - needs to be gas so the water vapour given off can pre-rust the friction surface and give a better key to the pads.

Our huge workshops used to bake Henkel SUNKORITE high temp heat resisting paint at 'about' the melting point of soft solder for an hour. Turn off the oven and allow to cool naturally to 'just cool enough to pick up'. Pretty rough and ready temps but it worked for at least 50 years to my knowledge.

The Henkel rep told us that the heat resisting properties were not due to the baking temps but more a case of the baking temp activating the heat resistance chemicals/properties within the paint.

Another tip Andy. Wifey WILL quickly know that some miscreant has been in the oven by the smell in the kitchen. I suggest you make yourself a vindaloo at the same time!

Just a word of warning. I wouldn't use any oven you are then going to cook food in.
Some of the fumes given off are not good for you and will linger in the oven and contaminate your food.

I think that you're being a tad over protective Stoneface. Our BIG ovens (we had two running alongside one another), close to a (6'wide x 8'long x deep enough for a Bedford QL/RL chassis and Rolls Royce Meteor engine and box) tank of boiling trichlorethylene. There was probably an extractor fan there somewhere too but I don't remember it. So far as I recall, all those at our last reunion at Carlisle seem to have survived. In fact, black SUNKORITED parts are still a function of our domestic oven - when she's out of course!

Thanks for all the helpful replies and if I ever do this for real I'll take them into account.

The vindaloo is on the menu tonight Peter and Graeme, the rust generation idea is a corker.

As is the tradition on 1st April, enjoy that pinch and a punch that Polar mentioned. It is noon so no more japes ;-)

After all the talk about painting discs, I simply couldn't resist an opportunity for a little fun, so please take it in the spirit intended. This is a great forum with some great ideas ;-)
