Following Andrews fun finding a CV joint with the correct(???) curved recess for the boot I thought I'd look at mine and horror, one had the groove like his and the other had a square recess with a ridge. Same part numbers on the box and both GKN. Seems like my various boots work with them both thankfully.

Rang a nearby enthusiast and guess what, his pair of NOS didn't match either! One was a metro one without GKN numbers - mini spares we think but dark metal, and the other was the one with the recess that Andrew was looking for.

Suffice to say, we have swapped one so I now have the curved recess as that matches the boot profiles... more on that in a minute... here's some pics.

So... then looked at the boots we have between us.

Nothing seemed to match the parts book we have and some have square ribs to go in the recesses (even the MG Rover ones) and various others had the round rib to go in the curved recess.

I'm down the choices in the bottom picture now, but maybe the MG Rover ones with the new design would last longer?? What confusion over something I thought would be so simple

Excellent line up of various CV Boots never seem them lined up before..i also agree the MG Rover Boot while it looks out of place when fitted on a Mini seems to be the best solution .. my MG/Rover CV Boot after about 4 years since being fitted stays supple with no rubber rot or splits.. yes its trouble free

Any idea what profile is on the joint on yours?

i cant remember but i suspect that CV joint has a flat surface. was fitted one Sunday afternoon as a replica boot from our fave supplier had failed pre MOT & this MG Boot was in my stock ..cant even remember where it came from..is secured with stainless wrapped wire using the twisty pliers to secure.. never had an OE inspection so no one has been a critic other than me

The ones in the bottom picture are the very early ones, but I doubt if I'll use them but save them for my '64 'original' when I finally get around to working on that one
