Got a half motor that needs to go down to my engine builder - can anyone recommend a good courier service that handles that kind of thing? :?

Hi, I went on the internet looking for pallet freight. You put the details ie weight delivery address etc and then wait for quotes. You will need a pallet which they will supply at a cost to you or you may be able to sort your own beforhand. They won't take oil filled engines in my experience BTW. Takes about a week for amost of them to come back to you but managed to get engine box discs, shafts and a pile of other bits from Scotland to Essex for £65 recently. I think it might have been Pallex, Shiply or someone like that. Be aware that the quotes did vary from £200 to £65 as I guess these firms fit in with whatever job they have and if there is space then that is a bonus and so the job is priced lower. Good luck. Mark
PS make sure it is strapped/tied down too. The engine and gearbox weighs about 150kg so I would imagine 110-120kg for a block and cyl head.

years ago i got a engine/box third party collected - when it arrived it had fallen of the rotten old pallet, spilling what looked like 5 gallons of brent crude all over the floor of the dhl blokes (who came to work every day - very embarrasing) van and over all the parcels he still had to deliver - what a mess, he got a proper bollocking for even putting it in his van.

for months after you could still see the oil stain (and smell it) in the back of his van.

i was not the flavour of the month......

I use pallettrack as I have an account with them but to ship a 1/4 pallet upto 250kg is on avaerage £28, worth giving them a try as even without an account I think they would be good value.

That is excellent. I have a mate with a breakers and he seems to get most car parts shipped for about a tenner. Worth sharing this kind of info under recommended suppliers maybe? Cheers. Mark
