Cometic gaskets

Post by 360gts »

Anyone have experience with these gaskets...pricy but may be a good product. Thinking of using one of the thicker items to reduce the CR.
Interested in hearing from those who have used them.

I used them for the same reason on an E-type.
Great quality and did the job.

MLS head gaskets have been around for along time and are well proven.
But rather than using a thick gasket to try and lower the compression ratio, I would be increasing the size of the chamber.

I've used them on Normally aspirated 8 ports, i'm not sure if i will be ok or not on the boosted one?, they are supposed to be used on especially flat block surfaces (cant recall the technical term) but have been fine on my normally surfaced, re used blocks.
Wanna see what I'm playing with? Youtube Channel
Caution ;) may contain 8 Ports, Xe's and VTec's, I don't do standard!

Good point.

Cometic specify a 50 Ra (USA Imperial Scale) finish, which is about on the cusp of what can be achieved on a conventional mill type surfacing machine in good condition and set up with a very fine feed rate, though normally you'd have them ground finished to achieve this type of Surface Finish.

Just use copper head gasket sealant and guarantee it will be fine. Believe Permatex sells it also. Machine shop here that builds high power motors uses Cometic with copper spray. Never a problem. And Cometic gaskets are reusable; with copper spray of course.

No.
MLS gaskets are designed to be used dry.
No sealent required.
