Hi folks,

Does anyone know who made the original front bump stops for the MK1 with the rubber cones, was it Mowog?

Thanks in advanced.

I stand to be corrected but I am pretty sure that the steel plates were done somewhere and the rubber part was made and bonded in place by a firm called METALASTIK (or METALASTIC). Judging from the thinness and amount of the paint used, they must have been done by the night shift at Cowley

Metalastik rings a bell with me and if you google "Metalastic/k bump stop" it does bring mini bump stops up so your probably right.

I'm surprised Mowog did not do them, they seemed to do everything else lol

Original bump stops had MOWOG moulded into them, but who actually made them I have no idea.

I have a feeling that items labelled MOWOG were largely made by third party vendors. Many come to mind like Rubbery Owen subframes but labelled "MOWOG". I am sure the list is quite extensive. In the US one could look at "MOPAR" as an analogous example. Many parts made by third parties under a common name...

Interesting response Andy. Just looked at one of mine and it has MOWOG punched into the steel part but slightly covered by the bonded rubber. The plate part was probably banged out by one of the BMC 'thump and bang' sub contractors, MOWOG logo punched in during the pressing and then sent to whoever (Metalastik) to be bonded. Metalastik made the rear exhaust hanger thinggies and also did loads of the similar anti-vibration bits on the Nortons and Triumphs. Interesting

I'll check mine tomorrow and confirm. Beginning to think they might have just B21 cast into the rubber not MOWOG.

I know the little top arm to subframe buffers have MOWOG cast into the rubber for definite.

Interesting about Metalastik as I normally avoid bushes with that on them, only buying ones with MOWOG or 21A1882 for the lower arm bushes
