Oil filter

Hi

On what force (Nm) you put the bolt of the oil filter house ?
I did it with to many power and the seal was broken šŸ˜ž

are you sure the new top seal was fitted correctly in its position before you tighten up the filter canister Bolt ?.. and not to forget the lower seal positioned around the bolt ..just a light hand tight torque of the filter cannister bolt in my experiences is all that is needed .

Wesley, what filter are you using? The spinn on GFE166 or the Filter element GFE103?

Or are you talking about the seal between the Filter housing and engine block?

Hi

i have the GFE 103 paper filter.
Now I have order the new seals on the bolt and new filter and bigger seal on top

BMC quote torque for the bolt as 10-15 lbs ft which isn't a lot and easily achievable with a short ring spanner - certainly well below the grunt scale.

HI Wesley

please check the old seal is removed from the housing, if it has been in there for some time and crushed in the housing, it may not be to visible and the new seal could be fitted on top, with tightening it a little tighter and it will leak thinking it just needs to push up into the housing to seal

I have never had a problem carrying out this simple task in the past but recently ordered some new filter elements and received them in dark blue and yellow boxes marked "CLASSIC GOLD" and using the old BL/UNIPART reference of GFE103. I found that the upper rubber seal split very easily and was lucky enough to have a spare one on the shelf. The material used for the seal in these new filters seems poor quality and I won't rush to buy more of this make.....
Maybe the filter in question was also this make?

I Used always Minispares Oil filters. GFE103 and recently bought MSF103.

Also never had any issues with those filters.

Heard of some people having troubles but i think this were bad fitted.

Make sure you take the right of the 3 big O-Rings for the top and renew the two rubber seals of the canister if required.

And fit the spring, washers the right way!

I had trouble sealing the bottom bolt - in the end I used a dowty washer which fixed it.

I have had an oil trail behind me after changing the oil. Now I have gone to the spin on filter..Change the head then put oil on the gasket turn it until it touches then 3/4 (approx.) of a turn and your done, next time put oil on the filter and do it again. sorry if this is inappropriate.

Wednesday it is the delivery day
The one I had before was one of mini spares

Sorry for resurrecting old thread, but I'm in Canada having trouble finding a compatible oil filter spin on type for a pre-injection 1275 MK3 mini. Rather not order from overseas for a low cost part when there should be compatible units locally from parts stores.

Locally FRAM, HiFlo, Purolator, Mann, K&N seem common on autostore shelves, but I need the cross reference/compatible parts numbers. My Haynes manual does not list the filter spec's.

I found the NAPA Gold 1374 filters at my local parts supplier. Pricey at $20 per, but I get 10% off with my auto club membership there.

Should be OK for another six months now.

I avoid K&N oil filters if they have the spot welded on nut. These have a long history of failing on both motorcycle and automotive versions....oil pressure rupturing the spot welds in such thin material or b/c or people using the nut for torquing up the filter initially. Unlike any other nut on your vehicle, this spot welded hex nut is supposed to only be used for removal of the filter....yet people will tend to use it like a normal thing. Poor design decision by K&N IMHO. There are many oil filter wrench solutions that are perfectly fine, why make this failure point for no real advantage...just sales & marketing hype.
