Prescott Mini Festival 22nd May 2021

Post by Pete »

Well I seem to have started a Mini Festival at Prescott! I suggested a Mini day and luckily the new events manager was very enthusiastic to do it so the date is 22nd May 2021 and it will essentially comprise of a 60th birthday party if the Mini Cooper, up to 150 Minis competing on the hill, (can’t see us getting anywhere near that many but we can fill empty slots with plenty of demo runs) , cars on display, camping, entertainment, special guests etc. Wanted this later in the year really but we just couldn’t find an available date that didn’t clash with a big Mini event or similar, hope some of you can join in! Hoping to see some historic racers and rally cars competing in their own classes as well as Hillclimb cars!

There’ll be food, camping, music, should be a good party and I’ll update this page as we go along.

Count me in Pete.

Not sure which car it'll be - 59, Woody or pickup.

I'd like to come and display one or more 8 ports.
Wanna see what I'm playing with? Youtube Channel
Caution ;) may contain 8 Ports, Xe's and VTec's, I don't do standard!

Sounds perfect Pete.
I’m well up for it!
Will entries be through BOC?

Yes entries via BOC. Anyone can turn up and display their Mini but clubs will need to book. Should have more booking info soon.

Okydoky, so seeing as we now have a national plan of sorts I’m very happy to say this event is on!

The guidelines state we can run an outdoor event up to 4000 people and we feel we will be able to make this happen safely on May 22nd.

I’ll have more final details for spectators or anyone wanting to bring a car very soon but we’re just finalising the class structure for the Hillclimb currently and I’d like any suggestions if you have any on that subject.

Currently we’re looking a a sub 1000 road going class, over 1000 ditto, sub 1000 modified, over 1000 modified, a Libra class for space frames and specials, non A series, a derivatives class and a class for historic race and rally cars. It’s abit complicated. 🤦‍♂️

Entries will open via the B.O.C as soon as we've finalised the classes, very soon hopefully.

Hi,
This sounds like it should be very exciting, thank you for your efforts.

Will cars need to meet the blue book and licences to run up the hill, or will it be an untimed event?

Thanks

All competing cars will need to confirm to the blue book, ditto competing drivers, BUT we’re looking at demo runs for non competitors and I’ll have news on this soon.

My Mk1 Mini Marcos ran at Prescott a couple of times between ‘67 & ‘69 and would be good to get it down there for this but current mobility issues may put paid to that. 😬

Sounds like it could be a cracking event.
But still will need to see what the restrictions on crowds will be - have they said much about this yet?
Cheers

Hopefully we’ll get to meet up again Gary, Tim’s bringing his Unipower!

After May 17th they will allow outdoor events to a maximum of 4000 capacity, Prescott is a fairly big site and rarely gets anything like that number at meetings so despite an expected increased spectator number we should be easily within that with a planned advanced ticket sale.

Sounds great Pete,
Yes would be good to catch up and would be great to get the Marcos down there to see if any of the older people there remember it.

Appreciate the regs needed to have the classes finalised to get permit issued but any idea when the entry will be open for the mini event ?

Looking at end of the week Julian. I think the problem was that after the Government’s recent announcement of their ‘road map’ Prescott then opened up their entries for the season (as did everybody else!) early this week and were inundated with entries and phone calls so couldn’t really deal with the Mini event.

Class structure looks like this currently.

1. Roadgoing Classic Mini
2. Modified Classic Mini
3.Non A Series Classic Mini inc 16v and forced induction A series over 1000cc
4.Pre ‘66 Historic racing Minis
5.Rally Cars
6.Sports Libre (includes space frames, rear wheel drive, etc)
7.Derivatives (A series powered, includes Marcos, Cox GTM etc)

That's a really well thought out class structure and will include everyone without being disadvantaged - Great looking forward to it

Thanks Julian, the emphasis being on fun as opposed to complicated!

We’ll be streaming the entire event on YouTube and Facebook with commentary, interviews etc.

We will have untimed demonstration runs aswell if anyone fancies it.

We’re not expecting problems allowing spectators in line with government advice but exact numbers to be outlined soon and therefore exhibitor and spectator ticket lines won’t be open just yet.

Can all competitors please fill in this registration form before we open the entries shortly.

I registered last week but apart from an acknowledgment I haven’t heard back I presume for the reason mentioned by Pete above.
