My 1965 Elf has been fitted with wheel arch extensions as it runs 12” wheels.
I am not sure they have been fitted in the correct location as they are sitting directly on the flange as in 1 in my drawing.
I think they should be fitted as in 2.
What are your thoughts?

I think it should be option 2, although option 1 will give the potential to not have to drill into the wing itself - fixing through the flange so they can easily be removed without leaving any long term damage?

I personally prefer option 1 as it gives more of a harmonious look. The car looks as if it was lowered, whereas option 2 imho always looks a bit "bodged together".

It seemed to me that option 2 is how there's made to fit.

I suppose it depends a bit on how the particular manufacturer (of the extension type you choose) intended them to be fitted.

When the Oz factory added arches (initially required by a particular State Rego authorities) they welded a plate to the bottom of existing arch that extend out horizontally and then attached the outer edge of the moulded arch extension to this plate. The upper flange of these extensions extends downwards as opposed to upwards shown in the diagram posted previously.
