Trying to get a handle on the various jacks available as standard with the 60s cars...

What I think I’ve found out so far:

21A98 Riveted, side lift, to #3214, 59/60 [AKD1152]
13H443 Bottle jack, Rollalift tommy bar, 59/60 [AKD1174]
13H527 Shelley LJ225 bottle jack, LWB. 60/61 [Somerford]
2A5876 A-frame side lift, hex ratchet drive - sup.by 13H449 [AKD1152]
13H449 Brittool BTC A-frame side lift, from #70839 [AKD1152]
13H838 Tangeye Shelley TS Rollalift side lift, Mk1/Mk2 saloon [S from #361399]
CHM64 Metallifacture side lift saloon, alt to 13H838 *
21A1643 Metallifacture cantilever lift, Mk1/Mk2 long wheelbase [AKD5104]
[13H838] A-frame side lift, hex ratchet, Mk2 saloon [AKD5104]
21A2533 Cantilever lift, long wheelbase Mk2 on. Square ratchet drive

* CHM64 seems to have had an extremely long lifespan, based on the date stamps.

My guess is that Metallifacture [CHM64] began as a second source with Shelley [Rollalift] as the primary supplier throughout Mk1/Mk2 production. For Mk3 onward on cars other than long wheelbase, Metallifacture CHM64 became the primary/sole supplier right through to at least the 1995 SPi era.

Shelley are usually orange/red and Metallifacture are black. But later Shelley jacks are also found in black.

Ian .. this is good & interesting info on Jacks that you list ..
Just for info.. my Metallicfacture 21A1643 Cantilever ( LWB) Jack seems to be in original paint that i would described as battleship Grey.

If anyone has the early A frame type Mini Side Jack of the type with the round section A frame uprights for sale ..
please pm as i need one for my 1961 year x 997 Cooper ;)

Hi,
I have a jack that's been with my Jun 1960 mini that we've owned since 1968, maybe since new, and I'm trying to find out if its the original one or not and what make it is.
I think it's a BTC side lift, but there are no markings on it and the base is flat. Can anyone let me know what it might be and if its the original one for the car?

Cheers

Looks like the earlier version of the Tangeye Shelley (TS) Rollalift, as used on the ADO16.

Has the separate square peg drive with ratchet handle, rather than the later ones which used the wheel nut wrench.

Thanks, that's great.
Do you know if this was standard for a 1960 mini?
Cheers

Sorry, I can't say for sure, but I suspect that jack is mid to late 60s as the earlier minis mostly seemed to have bottle jacks or a-frame jacks, rather than side lift. Also, the "jack willy" (spigot) on the ADO16 jack has a rectangular channel which seems to match yours, whereas on a mini jack it is more of a rounded U shape. Also, the Mini jacks usually have a stop at the base of the spigot, either as a welded on collar or two lugs/ears pressed out sideways. I think this is to stop the jack from gouging its way through the relatively thin metal of the mini sills if you try jacking up with people still in the car...
