Race engine builders
Who would you recommended to build a historic race engine? And who would you not recommend... Bill Richards, SH, MED, Swiftune, Slark? thanks

Re: Race engine builders
Don't have any experience other than with Swiftune in respect of our Appendix K racer and can say that we are entirely satisfied with the service from Nick and his team. Suggest for further guidance you look at who provided the engine in the front running cars in the all mini race at Goodwood in 2009.Henry wrote:Who would you recommended to build a historic race engine? We can also recommend Gerald Dale Engineering/Mondo Sport for excellent advice, preparation and car set up. They look after several Appendix K racers for customers in the UK and overseas, give Gerald a ring and ask his advice on this question, he has been racing mini's for years and has seen it all before, its experience that counts in this game!
kindest regards
Steady Eddie
PM me your phone number, it would be good to talk on this subject if you want.

Re: Race engine builders
I guess the key here is what is your budget ? You also need to look at how much you value reliability and factor that into your costs. It also depends on what your plans are in terms of race series probably.
Once you can answer this question it will help you to make your decision where you want to have an engine built. There are the obvious avenues such as swiftune and slark, however there are several smaller operations out there that are pushing round a few of the Mini's in the Various Appendix K Mini Series.
As my old man says - looking at the results of the St Marys Trophy in 2009

To the best of my knowledge in the Top 10 were
7 Swiftune Cars
1 Slark Car
1 Matrix Racing Car
1 Unknown (Lionel Dodkins) ???
The Schryver Car was also rapid throughout the year in 2009, this was a Steve Harris powered car I believe, I think it just didn't get the rub of the Green during the Goodwood race, so the results probably were not fully representative of its potential.
I can't say I am aware of a Bill Richards or MED powered car in historics at the moment, but I am far from an expert and there maybe one or two out there ?

Re: Race engine builders
In Holland we have miniminded. They use partly a Slark engine but with their own design head. And that brings more power. They use it on their FIA Cooper S.
