For the life of me I can't recall using this plug on the side, and others don't seem to have it??
Any ideas welcomed???

3 pin DIN, possibly with the locking feature.
Widely used in the 70s for HI-Fi .

Thanks, I don't think the car has ever had a radio? I might take the back off and see where it goes

Its just a plug and socket when all said and done.
It can be used for any low voltage application, available with up to 7 pins IIRC.
Though often used for HiFi signals, they're not that good as they're not well shielded.

I wonder if someone has added it as a 12v socket for a poti?
Plenty of 4 and 5 pin DINs on my vintage Naim amps here...I think they still argue they’re better than RCA to this day.

Good call, but I think the Potti was wired to a normal two pin plug. Long gone now but I've found another nice one fortunately - from a member on here

Mystery solved thanks to a chance comment from my wife.
The poor thing often came out in her mini (the one seen on here) as our parts wagon for servicing. She always wondered why we would start a radio conversation with 'One more for a coffee'.
For those who can recall, the actual clue should be One Four for a copy... she took years to discover that!!! Another clue here...
