Anyone aware of other sources for wiring loom routing.
I have checked all the forums and reference books I have.

AKD3509 Mechanical Service Parts List manual contains this image.
Looking for other sources with more detail and easier to view.

Looking at that diagram showing the routing -

In the engine bay - the front loom starts at the temp sensor, then goes to the dynamo, then to dissy and oil switch, branch to all front lights, then to flasher unit, to fuse box to speedo and into car with, finally, a branch to rear loom and wiper motor. The rear loom connects with about 7 bullets and then goes through the bulkhead into the car to the right of the speedo hole (as you look in the engine bay).

Inside the car - the front loom speedo branch (about 1.5" thick) goes down through the parcel shelf to the switch panel & switches and then the main feed from the battery goes through a hole in the toe board to the starter button under the car (assuming start button by the handbrake). The rear loom comes through the bulkhead and goes up the left hand screen pillar (as you sit in the seats), along the inside of the roof and down the C post into the boot area. There may be a purple wire for the central interior lamp level with the back of the door.

In the boot, the loom goes behind the LH tank to the LH rear light, with branches through the floor to the elec fuel pump (and fuel gauge if its a van, pickup or woody), then across under the boot lid hinges to the RH rear lights.

Did you have any specific queries ?

Short term I want to better understand how the loom goes through the hole in the firewall behind the binnacle and gets to the parcel shelf. I believe the windshield washer hose goes through this same hole.

I was looking for a picture rather than a thousand words.

Personally, I don't have any suitable pictures so I'm afraid you'll have to make do with words.

Working from the engine side, theres a thick piece of loom (~1 1/2") that goes through the speedo hole and down through the 2" hole in the shelf. These will be all the switch wires, incl ignition sw, maybe battery feed and the washer pipes as you say. At the back of the speedo will be the warning light wires, fuel gauge and temp gauge wires

Then feed the front section of the front loom through the triangular hole in the inner wing stiffener up to and including the 3 earths, flasher wires and brake switch wires, but not fuse box wires.

I assume you have a circuit diagram, know the Lucas colour scheme and know where the wires go to.

I have located several diagrams as well as the color scheme.
As for knowing where the wires go ... this should be fun!

Any personal favorite diagrams would be appreciated.

Also have not found any good You Tube videos.

Do you have the floor mounted starter button or key start.

Do you have the single clock binnacle (ie just speedo) or three clock (speedo, temp and oil).

What year and model is your car. Is is positive or negative earth.

Is it bone stock or modified Do you have a rev counter, extra driving lights or other electrical extras.

Show us your wiper motor.

Show us some pictures of your loom and car please.

My car is an Austin Cooper S, 1966; unmodified.
Dynamo, positive earth, key start.

First thing you need to do, is, take the binnacle back out, or, you will never get the wires over to the two gauges.......You may get by just removing the 4 screws that hold the black part to the white one.......

And, don't forget to install the oil pressure pipe while you are there......

The binnacle is apart and the oil pressure is attached and sitting on my bench. Had to source a new fiber washer for the oil pipe. I also had to repair a hole in the black binnacle and am now testing VHT Wrinkle Paint to finish it off.


What is the metal tube for on the both the oil pressure gauge and the temperature guage?

From personal experience. Be very careful when routing the rear loom into the engine bay to ensure the connectors do not "stretch" the connectors, to the front loom.

I believe you need to supply them. The bulb sockets connect into that double Red/White connector in your picture

Checking suppliers and coming up blank.
Looking for the bulb socket, bulb, wire and proper connector.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Yes, just looke at one of my 64S binnacles, and, they are indeed two separate red/white wires with a push in bulb socket on one end, and, a male lucas connector the other end, both, about 8 inches long.......

I'll take some pics tomorrow........
