Hi,
found something that is maybe new re the Rally History of AJB 66B: it was driven by Tony Fall / Ron Crellin in the Munic-Vienna-Budapest Rally (8-10 Oct, 1965).

Fall on Munich Vienna Budapest 65 above was incorrectly listed as AJB55B by Browning. (Price correctly showed 66B)

I discovered this car in a garage in Rothbury owned by Bill Kirkup the local mechanic, no one had seen it for 20 years and it was complete but in poor condition.
The owner Bill had bought it from the BMC team at the roadside while they were on destruction testing up at Kielder forest, Bills relation worked for Associated Press as a photographer and pulled all the publicity pics of the car and put them in folders for Bill, which were with the car.
A friend Bernard Griffin pestered the life out of me for the address and contact details of Bill as he wanted to buy an Ex works car, as i had no chance of ever affording to buy the car myself I passed the details onto Bernie and he eventually after a couple of years persuaded Bill to sell him the car.
I was so pleased Bernie bought it because he made a fantastic job of restoring it and enjoyed owning it.

And I still own it 33 years later
..Many thanks Simon
In the intervening years I have managed to find many items relating to the car, i.e. original rally plates/trophies/paperwork/carnet de board /etc ,etc,....This also started my obsession with original Ex Works rally plates of which I have quite a collection !.........

Hi Bernard,
Hows life treating you? Glad you kept the car and continue to enjoy it. I've just retired and after a life in the Motor trade have lost my passion for cars but not Mini's although its years since i owned one.
I had a few E types and Other old jags but seem to have worked the classics out of my system LOL.
Love to hear from you again, still got that beauty Fiesta yellow 970 S ?
Regards
Simon

That is wonderful to hear. I am restoring (very slowly) a 1071 that is only a few chassis numbers away.It was used in the SW as a rally car and nowhere near the provenance of yours, but I did compete in it myself

Hope to see this car out again this year. I’m also pleased that Bernie has refused all offers to sell it so we still get to hang on to a works car for people to see oop here. He’s also agreed to leave it to me in his will, which is very generous of him.

The second car (no 102) is EJB55C - Rauno. His victory in this event contributed to his winning the European rally Championship.
