There is an indication on a build sheet that AJB33B ran as DJB92B on one event. Without the sheet and the event reference, it is not at all clear which rally. The works lives of the two overlapped only for about 9 months in 65.
Variations in the positioning of the studs for the headlight protectors is often an indication of car change on earlier cars but by then it seems to have been largely standardised (at 12 o'clock/6 o'clock). AJB33B and DJB92B show no variations in that respect in that period. (Photos of the surviving AJB33B appear to show it has no fixing studs and the one wing mirror favoured by Makinen at the time has become two).
The exact positioning of the bonnet securing strap shows minor variations in several appearances of AJB33B and is on the opposite side in a photo of DJB92B on Nordrhein-Westphalia.
Both ran on Sweden 65 in February. DJB92B was clearly a new car for Sweden 65 as it appears unfinished in the background of photos with the mayor of Abingdon of the celebrations after the return of AJB44B from the 65 Monte win.
Nordrhein-Westphalia (DJB92B) and Coupe des Alpes (AJB33B) clash in July. The only appearance for either between is AJB33B on Tulip in April. An appearance by DJB92B when AJB33B was not running anywhere would explain matters but this way round does not.
AJB33B was sold to Makinen after its 1000 lakes win in August 65 (did it not come home from Finland?) . DJB92B next appears on the RAC in November.
Any ideas out there? Was the note on the build sheet wrong?

Ambrose autobio states Makinen 65 Coupe des Alpes car was dry (suspension wise - probably not driver wise...).

It’s great to have your input back on the forum Keith. Your knowledge, whether from hours of research, or / and actually being there, is much appreciated. Please keep it coming.

I can confirm that this car was in a museum at Kangasala in Finland last year as I photographed it there last July:
rsz_20190731_190237.jpg
Apparently it has been restored to some extent as I found some in car video from a demonstration run on the 2017 Neste Rally Finland (1000 Lakes):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZiiy7L ... el=Mobilia
The Youtube description translates roughly (according to Google) as: participated in the Neste Rally Harju special stage in memory of Timo Mäkinen on July 27, 2017. The driver was Juha Kaivo-oja, who played a big role in the resuscitation of the Mini, and the co-driver was Petri Niemenmaa of the Rally Museum. This is the traditional stage run in the town of Jyväskylä.

Don Barrow’s photo of Timo on recce.
Great photo of Timo Makinen in 1964 by his Co-driver Don Barrow..
“Here is a pic of Timo Makinen and Don Barrow in AJB 33B recceing for the 1964 Alpine Rally - Timo is just checking his stock of spirits & cigarettes - The Dunlop SP3 tyres were new at 08:00 hrs, they now look like slicks at 15:00 hrs.
1964 saw my second 'Works Team' Co-drive this time with the BMC Works Team, a very professional outfit run by Stuart Turner, a brilliant organiser and superb tactician. My invitation came completely out of the blue. I checked in at our office about 17:00 hrs on Monday and Mrs Moores the Company secretary said a Mr Turner telephoned this morning and asked for you to telephone him back before 16:30 hrs on Abingdon ????. WHAT ! and your only telling me now ! Needless to say by the time I telephoned they had all gone home, apart from the security guard, I explained the urgent situation and I managed to get Stuart's home telephone number. Guess what, he wanted me to go recceing with Timo Makinen in a Works Mini Cooper on the Alpine Rally in two days time, YES no problem. Wow, a dream come true. So Stuart motored up to Wilmslow in Rauno Altonen's Alpine Mini Cooper on Tuesday evening and brought me documents and airline tickets to fly from Manchester to Gatwick where I would meet Stuart again on Wednesday morning and then onto Nice airport to meet Timo.
In order that Timo would recognise me at Nice Airport I had to have a Motoring News tucked under my arm.”
Thanks to Don for the words and photo. The surviving car in Finland is refreshingly an absolute peach.

I’ve never noticed an early works car with headlight washers before he also looks like he has eaten all the
. Never noticed he was that heavy when driving for BMC, he was a big man.

You are right about that, I took the text with the picture.

I've made the same mistake as believing the text from pictures. Now I check it out first against other pictures in the threads and other sources of information. This is a great site for finding information about rally entries.

Beware that site. Not complete in many cases and not obvious that it isn't.
