Chrome window surround

I am trying to refit the chrome window surround on my 1962 Super, I have done a search on the site and all references I get are for the surrounds held on by rivets - mine is held on by clips in 1/4 inch holes in the door.
When I took the chrome off there was a mixture of clips and some sort of mastic or adhesive, some of the clips broke with a result that I now have 8 clips (should be 24). I purchased new clips from Bresco but think they are too big, I did try them but did not wish to “force” them any more than I did. Would I be alright with 4 clips per side and an adhesive? If so what would you use?

Photos attached show an original and new clip (I think you can tell which is which!!)download/http://mk1-forum.net/download/ ... w&id=43586

Any suggestions greatfully recieved.

The clips look pretty close, can’t you tweak them a little if your worried.

I have tried squeezing the clip with a pair of pliers but there’s no give in them.

I had an early Mini with those clips in the late 1970's, when the clips broke they were NLA from BL (no internet then to find alternative suppliers) so i just used the later pop rivet clips drilling new holes and left the existing large holes unused or you could fill them with silicone or similar to waterproof. I know this is not original spec but sometimes needs must!
Also note the Minispares reproduction chrome surrounds use different size pop rivet clips to the originals.

You can be short a few clips without problems, my doors had five clips missing probably from the factory. they can also be repaired with stainless strips and silver solder if the tab is broken off.
