Old rubber cones

Going through the bits and pieces I have stripped from my 1961 Austin Seven, and noticed this...
Rear cones have NO thread in them????
Anybody come across this before?
Fronts have an imperial thread, but not even a hole in the rears!
Assuming they are original, why would they make two types?
I’m not reusing them, just a little intrigued!!

I have came across loads of them, but I thought they started do this much much later than 61, like for a few years in the mid 70's?

Maybe they were changed out at some point ?

I'd say the reason for the lack of nut is a compressor is not needed to assemble / dissemble the rears, so some brain wave thought it might save them money.

I too have come across cones with no nuts but only from early to mid seventies on.
