Wiper motor bench testing - can anyone confirm that...

...that it is power to terminal 2 (fused to be on the safe side)

The external screwed on earth goes to permanent earth

Terminal 1 also goes to earth, normally switched via this but for testing will be tapping the battery post.


Sorry if this is obvious - just want to be 100 per cent sure... especially if I have it wrong!!!

Depends which model of motor it is.

A picture of the motor and its markings would be good.

Mk1 fitted single speed DR3A motor - standard early 64 car.

Position 1 takes a normal spade, Position 2 had a cut out for a spade with a rib moulding and E is simply the earth tab on the body lower casing where the screw goes through the motor body.

Basically power in on 2, earth via circuit switch on 1 and E is the general casing earth.

No that came later I think, this is the original 64 one.

Andy, the non-parking does not have a connection to the E position, so just 2 wires. The spades are different in that the no2 connection has an extended
piece to locate in that groove.

Ah right, it was the E one that was confusing me and I'm not close to the loom or a car to check

Seems absolutely dead with no movement at all when connected - any ideas welcome or shall I just get another (and keep the date plate to swap over).

Hi Andy, how are you trying to move ? If you are using one bench 12V variable station, you need to have one with some nice amps. It needs some extra power at begining.

Have you check if bushs are ok? And the inside shaft with clean surface ?

Thanks and success - but all I did was take it apart and reassemble as nothing looked wrong??? I can only guess that something was sticking??
