you can check the cam timing without taking it any further apart.
generaly the inlet and exhaust valves are about the same lift at TDC on the overlap stroke. just stick a couple of pushrods down it and see.
i dont know what cam you should have in it as im not very 850 savvy. but i have no doubt somone on here should know what it will be and have some timing figures ie: full lift at 110 ATDC ect or even lift at TDC if youre lucky !
obviously with standard gears the timing figures wont be spot on, but there or there abouts is ok
