Mk1 Boot Lock Question

Hi, was wondering if someone can shed light on my boot handle issue. Just recently when I unlock the boot the entire handle comes out. Has something fallen off, snapped and is my handle now buggered? Any insights appreciated? I have a couple of pictures but they don't want to upload, will sort something out and post them shortly. Rgd's Allan

If you look @ the Boot Lock Handle on the "square shaft" you will see the corners are somehow squashed outward ..this is the OE system used to trap the cup shape component that you will find have slipped off the square shaft of your Boot Lock assembly ..Solution is fit it all back together & then bash the square shaft corners outward enough to stop the assembly falling apart .. if you apply a blob of weld this will probably be a better solution .
Possible reason for your issue ..
To change the Key Lock Barrel this Cup that is located on the square shaft has to be removed to get to the pin that will release the Lock Barrel .. the easy method is to File Off these official Burrs on the boot lock square shaft & the components fall off the square shaft .. Then the problem comes on reassembly when these Burrs on the square shaft need to be re-created while pushing against the Cup & now loaded Spring ..about this time the bad language starts

Thanks Polarsilver, I'll search for the missing cup that is hopefully still in the boot mechanism somewhere. If possible I'd like to keep the handle & square shaft as the shaft is stamped 60 6. The tip on a dab of weld makes sense to hold everything fast. Will see what I can do, cheers.
UPDATE - 12/6
Found the cap, spring and spacer. Now the refit and weld as suggested. A big
