I fitted a brand new AUF214 pump to my car recently. The papers that come with the pump say polarity is not an issue with these pumps. It worked originally when I tested it by just connecting it to a battery. After installing it, I have since changed the polarity around on my car from - earth to + earth....and then reversed it again. Now the pump is not working properly anymore. I took it off and tested it on a battery again. It does make a pumping sound the moment the wire touches the terminals, but it is like one "click"...then it stops and does nothing. The body of the pump also warms up.

Have I stuffed it up by changing the polarity around? Or what else could be wrong?

Hi Abri,
You may have to swap the wires on the pump, neg to pos and pos to neg. The SU pumps I have fooled around with seem to be polarity sensitive. Easy to try anyway.

I've tried that. They symptoms are the same either way around.

you might want to try cleaning the points as well, from new the pumps where covered in some sort of liquid to prevent corosion during storage

Abri did you ever solve the issue with your fuel pump?

I have exactly the same symptoms with mine. It will run and the engine starts, but then after about 30 seconds it cuts outs. I put my hand on the pump and it didn't seem to be pumping, and was hot to the touch. I bought mine as a reconditioned unit so expected to be ok.

Ive taken it off and it pumps away nicely, but then as soon as I put it back on the car a it seems to cut out again?

Are these points pumps - or electronic??

Maybe the latter type are not so simply switched??

Or .... I've recently had all sorts of issues with my new electronically switched SU pump - until I changed the tank and cleaned out the fuel lines. Turned out to be a mechanical problem (crud) rather than electrons....

Matty, no, I haven't manage to get mine going. I cleaned the points and the same problem persists. The points close (or is it open?,can't remember which now) when you attach power and then sticks in that position until power is removed. You can repeat this as many times as you want but it doesn't do anything different.

Minispares said I could send it back and they would refund the shipping cost (I live in South Africa) "if" ( ) anything is wrong with it. I haven't sent it back yet.

I had the same with mine, and I adjusted one of the 'stops' and it seemed to cure it.

Since fixing mine ive only done about 15miles and its done it again, so obviously it hasn't worked in the long term.

Ok, I will try to turn my diaphragm half a turn anti clockwise and see if that solves the problem So far I've been reluctant to fiddle with it too much for fear of being told I messed it up when I try to send it back. Thanks for the advice!

I think ive sortred mine now. All ive done is adjusted the stops up so it strokes a bit longer, and it hasn't stalled so far. Im hoping to take it for a test drive tomorrow to see if its worked!

Well mine is all fixed now. Taken it for its longest drive yet (30mile round trip). And hasn't cut out once. All I did was adjust one of the stop to all the pump to stroke further and it no longer stalls.

Please explain the method. I tried making adjustments to mine this morning but don't know if I did the same as you. Mine is still not working .

I just adjusted this part in the direction the arrow is pointing, and it no longer stalls or get hot. You can feel it pumping slowly when the engine is running, where as before you couldn't at all. Before it seemed to pump to get up to pressure then stop.

Nice pic! Well, good to know I'm not completely stupid. That's exactly what I also adjusted. Sadly without success
