That would be a nice car, if built with "in period" parts

Excused myignorance, but is this based on something historic or just nice looking?
I think the rear screen should be larger, but just a bit

Jan

Think the front says differently, but nice pic not seen one of those before.

Just checked "MAXIMUM MINI" its a Peel Viking Sport GT, built on the Isle of Man.

I understand that the guy doing this body has aquired the moulds to the Peel Viking and modifed the front, hence I posted the pics.
You can clearly see it when looking at the rear quarter.

This shot of the bodyshell in Surf's original post from a Peel website and showing more the interior mouldings would tend to confirm your observations..

eh, an obvious question has to be.... why?
they didn't find all that many buyers when the Viking was new, and the 'market' for such a car is surely much smaller now? Those desperate for such a car will surely want an original.
I applaude his confidence and enthusiasm in getting the project this far, but I rather suspect sales will be few and far between, and it's not cheap to make a set of decent production moulds for a whole car. I'd have put my efforts into a Broodspeed type fastback conversion, or a Unipower relaunch which surely has a wider appeal?
I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect not.

If (and thats a BIG if) I was going to spend money on another car?
would I send a MK I shell to France, and have a Trickett built Sprint

I think the standard(ish) Mini front is an improvement over the Peel version, but I'd rather have a Sprint or Braodspeed replica.

Definitely Broadspeed GT for me! If a replica Broadspeed GT shell was offered I would have my deposit ready and bee on the net finding a shipping company to get it to my door.

As far as Broadspeed GT replica's, when the Mickelenburg brothers offerd the roofsection (the only thing fiberglass on a GT) via their Symbol mini compagny (correct me when i'm wrong) there wasn't much interest as well as i recall. So why should there be now?
I think as with each "modified mini" there are only a few people in to the 'specials'

I totally agree with Al.
But apart from that I think it is a pity that the original Viking shape is modified to this much more common look. The chap who offers it for sale is very knowledgable about Peels and has been offering Viking replicas for several years but demand for them is very limited, to put things mildly. Perhaps a modified nose and name can actually sell them too, but I have my doubts.

We've had some relatively recent changes to the procedure for registering kit cars and even cars that have had a new body here in the UK.
From what I understand the new IVA even needs a colapsable steering column to qualify so youd be hard pressed to register any newly built Mini derivative.

I quite like that - not quite a Broadspeed but still pretty cool. I remember aswell that someone years ago (perhaps ABS Motorsport) did a fibreglass coupe roof conversion for Mini saloons. I never saw any around shows or in magazines so I assume it never caught on.

I should really look at the whole site before posting!!! They still do the roof conversion. Always kinda fancied doing one!
