Sealing washers for pivot pin bell crank on diff. cover

Post by jaknight »

What type of sealing washers are used for the pivot pin and bell crank on the differential cover?

They are steel flat washers on either end of the pin and then a sealing ( ? ) washer before the differential cover.

There are sealing washers on either side of the bell crank where it mounts in the the differential cover.

Hope this makes sense.

What type of material is used for the sealing washers: neoprene rubber, Buna-N rubber, or ?

The sealing washers keep out some water and road debris..correct?

Since the bell crank sits in a big open hole, there are no sealing washers (kinda pointless really).......there are some steel washers, and, possibly "anti rattle" washers.......that go either side of the bell crank, in the hole.....

No washer under the head of the pin, and, one steel washer on the other end of the pin, then, the cotter pin.......

They are made of rubber, the ones I've got are in two thicknesses 1/32" and 1/16" thick. I'm guessing they are there to control the endfloat of the lever arm and to reduce vibrations through the linkages.
if you want to stop debris getting in tape a thin plate over the square hole in the diff cap.

Thanks for the replies. Will look for different thicknesses of durable rubber washers.

The rubber washers are not too close to the exhaust to create a problem??

Difficult to know what was used when manufactured because the car was not all original!

I try to re-use originals where I can but I did find that some plumbing washers were suitable.
