GPMC MEMORIAL RALLY 11/12 JUNE

Post by SMOKE GREY »

Me and GraemeC out on this event tonight. Pre-plot night event and a round of the ANWCC historic road rally championship. This is my 9th go at this event, Paul Gray out in another Mini ( think he has shown his face on here before :) ). Historics are all Minis except a lone Saab 96 V4. Full 50 car entry for a very popular event. Third event for the 'orangebox' , hoping for a troublefree run :? :o ;) :!:

Well, 3rd timeout with the'orangebox' and come back with a trophy, 2nd class. Yet feel a bit miffed this morning, drove my heart out all night,me and the car at our maximum we finished 13th o/a and first in class on the provisional results at breakfast. Even better Graeme C after a good run was 20th and 2nd in class , a very good drive as Graeme admits he's not fully confident in the dark ( a demon on the tests ;) ) so looking like a MK1 Performance 1-2 :!:

Unfortunately one of the top regular competitors in the expert class in a MK1 Escort 2.1 decided to swop classes after the rally , so gaining max points in the ANWCC historic road rally championship ( he was a couple of places ahead of us overall). Hence we got 2nd and GraemeC and nav got no pot for there efforts. I do prefer to get my results holding the steering wheel rather than a results query sheet ;)

This little except off British Rally forum cheered me up though, from a couple of regular competitors with a 2.0 Astra.

Thanks to all the organisers for a cracking night. I got most of it plotted before we set off with only a handful of references to plot at petrol and really enjoyed the route. No over use of whites and some fantastic roads. A few little wrong slots and missed whites cost us a little bit of time but I think we just couldn't match the locals, especially the orange Mini, it was flying! Only downer on the event for me was why do people insist on leaving spot lights on when you catch a car, especially if your not being held up, it's just ignorant.

Thanks to all the marshalls for standing out on another cold night and to Gareth for a brilliant night, surprised we dropped so much time as we were on it all night,

If anyone has any pictures of Car 20, white Astra GSI, please

Had a least four people come up to me who remembers |Mapple and the orangebox including the scrutineer! Will post some pics when i can.
