Help please. Trying to fit downton type mirror through the window catch and mirror is angled away from car - can cut bigger slot to adjust angle but still seems miles out. What am I doing wrong please?
Thanks, Mike

I’ve only got one on the drivers side, but I’ve heard the passengers side needs to be opened up to get the right angle
Did you get the flat mirror or the convex?

Hi, silly question...does it make a difference if you turn it 180 on the base portion, I remember having to turn mine to get more adjustment in the direction I needed it...

I needed to increase the securing bolt "slot length" by some considerable amount on the near side Mirror to get it aligned to the eyesight of the Driver
also needed to re-secure the Bolt Head inside the mirror case as that had now run out of bolt head jamming system to tighten all up ..now i had a long slot to allow the Mirror head to turn inward to the needed position .. then positioned Mirror to fixed adjustment where it needed to be.. then used RTV to secure the inside Bolt Head .. also RTV sealant was needed to fill up the gaping extended slot hole that was now visual due to the increase in bolt body slot length .. However all is good and i can see down the inner side of the car essential for me when manovering in confined areas.
Used Dome Head Chrome Nuts with a taper filed on the seat ..so they fit/ locate into the Window Catches & yes some amount of torque needed to tighten up the Mirror in position using a rubber washer between Mirror & Window Glass .. result all good suits me but then i am not a OE specialist
What is needed is the Manufacturer of these Mirror (s) should position the Mirror Mounting with more angle adjustment as am sure other type cars also have the same issue.

The points that you make are fair ones, fitting these Raydyot style racing mirrors to Mini's has always been difficult. The reason it is so tricky is that the mirrors are mounted so damn close to the drivers face. In the vast majority of applications this isn't the case so the mirrors are much easier to fit & adjust.
TBH, I find it highly unlikely that anyone who makes these is going to modify them for Mini owners, when the design has remained unaltered for 50 or 60 years & the numbers sold to Mini people is miniscule.
This is why most people who use them space them off in one way or another.

I have 'Downton- style' Mirrors on mine, but fitted to Rover Cooper fittings, and have no issue with rear view visibility.
