Any thoughts on this boot lid? Double skinned like a late Mk1 or Mk2 but has the mk3 number plate outer pressing modified for a swinging number plate. It's all steel, the badge holes are for a mk1 Austin Mini and the boot lock was dated 1966.I'm guessing this would have been a replacement for a damaged, rotten original Mk1 boot lid. Were there late mk2 Minis with a similar panel?

Yep, I'm sure some late MKIIs had a MK3 style lid. Pic is a MKII Plodmobile with a MK3 style boot lid taken at a local show many years ago. I can't guarantee it's original to the car but I'd of thought so?

I think very early Mk3's had a double skinned boot lid.
My friends 69 mk3 850 certainly had one.

I think - from memory - that replacement bootlids from BL were supplied like that at one time.

They where still building mk2 Mini's at the end
but there where no more mk2 bootlits.
So they put the mk3 in it, I had a late mk2 as also
with an mk3 in it.

The MK3 colour monotone Bronze Yellow is original on this Mk2 Cooper S in Denmark (backed by Heritage Cert).......several of the last Mk2 Coopers left the factory in Mk3 monotone colours and with a mix of parts like the Mk3 bootlid also seen here:-

The one on ebay has some subtle differences though. It doesn't have the fittings for the number plate carrier but it DOES have the holes for the Mk3 number plate light. The fitting of the outer skin is very crude and looks as if the skin was perhaps replaced at some time?

I had this one for years hanging in my garage, sold to a friend for his Mk2 as a spare.
In the Netherlands the Austin Mini Mk2 had the name : Mini Austin Mk2 Seven 1000
