Hi ,

Here is my project for historic racing , a 1275gt group 2 ( period G2 ) with cooper's engine and weslake 8 port cylinder head.
I made a replica based on the works 8 port clubman YMO 886J ( I know it was initialy build for group 6 but can raced in group 2 with minor modifications )

All parts from the engine are original special tuning.

I use a modified round nose mini to build my GT ( a mk5 body that will be converted to mk3 )

The engine rebuild is in progress.

Thanks,
Today I have received the left and right tank as fitted on rally car.

Image

Normally I can use a third fuel (bag) tank to have a better autonomy like Works rally car , but I will wait to know more about the engine fuel comsuption, maybe 50 liters wil be sufficient to race today ( rallies are more shorter today ).

Image

I have find also original repro of C-AJJ4020 wings extentions for 1275GT groupe 2 as describted on homologation form.

Today I have started to pre-assembling the engine , i have bought the engine dismantled as you can see on the first page.

I have checked the block and crank line , pistons clearance ( 0.0035in/0.090 mm , great !), timing and mesurate/control all the parts etc etc to prepare final assembly.

I have a question , I have see that the camshaft have two pinion , one for distributor , but the other one ?
If someone can tell me why ? ( I think it maybe for a pump ... )

The second gear on the cam was to drive a dry sump pump. This was used commonly in single seaters, but only very rarely in the transverse models.

Didn't Mark LeMaitre's car in the late '80's early 90's run a dry sump?

There are quite a few examples of Minis that were dry sumped. It's just that it never became particularly common.
