Dummy Mk1/2 External Hinges!

Post by mab01uk »

Most on here are almost certainly going to hate the idea of these Mk1/2 external hinges for Mk3 on doors (from Arc Angels) ..............but I think for what they are they are actually quite a clever and neat piece of design, (if they work!) a much better solution than the crude Japanese versions I have seen before, which are just in 2 seperate parts and have very large gaps to maintain the opening clearance and so don't look that realistic when open or shut. Have to say I'm not too sure about the stick-on idea though...... :o

Mk1 Door Hinges - £212.00
"After nearly 18 months of development, they are finally here. These door hinges allow you to achieve the mk1 look on a later mini with interior door hinges. They are replicas of the original mk1 hinges, made using a special blend of casting resin, giving a tough and accurate replica hinge. A special pivot system allows the door to open without the hinge fouling, as the door is closed, the hinge returns to its original position giving the look of a mk1 hinge These hinges are individual in many ways. The first being that you can fit them to a later non exterior hinge car. Secondly, they are so easy to apply, Simply remove the self adhesive backing, and stick them on. Can be fitted in about 5 minutes. Thirdly, They have misalignment adjustment, allowing you to fit the hinges to any mini with up to 2mm of misalignment between the door and a panel. To find the misalignment measurement, place a ruler against the door and a panel, the difference between the two panels is the misalignment, and yes, most minis are different from side to side, as well as top to bottom. We manufacture the hinges and finish them to your paint code, meaning all you have to do is stick them on. simply email your paint code when ordering. There is currently a wait of 6 to 8 weeks on this product."

There are a lot of different Japanes ones, including at least two designs that iopen up like that. I've always though the sticker ones were the best.

Thanks for pictures 8-) ..........they look very good!

kariya and Tim can you show us more of some similar 'unique' Mini parts and mods rarely seen outside Japan?
I have a Japanese Mini parts catalogue crammed with amazing items but the pictures are very small and the websites are quite difficult to search when you can't read any Japanese!

I'm not much help, i'm in Australia and can't read Japanese either. However I use google chrome when I want to browse Japanese websites. It will translate to English on the fly and is fairly effective. It doesn't work backwards though, so I first translate the search terms into Japanese, then paste them into google. Its probably not very efficient but gets me there in the end. Its helpful to know a small amount of Japanese, for example, 'Les Leston' = 'Resuresuton'.

Here's a google image search for Les Leston, did you know he made shirts?
