Deseamed 'racer'

Managed to find this shell for a pretty good price locally, not something that was my cup of tea, but i seem to have found a soft spot for it. I was very impressed how little distortion there was and how little filler was used. Plans for the car are to use my SPI as a donor for the engine, new subframe, wiring, braking, fueling, electrics etc and have it looking as period from the outside. Will be putting an Aley style cage in, with period seats and a fresh set of cosmic arches. Will also need to put a new front panel on it and a rear valance.

It was a pretty sorry state when it arrived, the previous owner had riveted cosmic arches on and then fibreglassed and filled over them, i dreading taking them off as i was expecting all sorts beneath them. Luckily, i found solid primed steel, which i was very happy about.

The rear parcel shelf was butchered out to fit speakers i assume, so Andrew sold me a mk2 solid parcel shelf. Thanks again. The rear lights were also butchered to fit mazda lights apparently, luckily i had a set of rear light panel cuts, so fitted them.

Unfortunately someone had drilled out all of the hinges and put cotter pins in there, so i had to use another set and re-studded them and will put new pins in. If anyone has a 3/4 hinge or just the 3 please let me know. I havent fully adjusted the doors yet, im just happy they fit in place at the minute, with ok gaps

Very nice straight rust free shell. What colour do you have in mind?

Not decided yet, will see what the heritage certificate comes back as. On the v5 it was green/ white so must of been sprayed in the past.

Great project & a really sweet rustfree shell. Very unusual to find a deseamed shell that good.

Interesting that they have de-seamed / reshaped the join between the wing tops and the scuttle - is that all steel too?

Does it make me a bad person if I admit to really liking the de-seamed look?

TRP, i agree, i didnt like the look until i found this car.

Pandora, the scuttle to wing is unfortunately filler, but seems to have a good base, there is no closer in underneath at the minute, and is all solid under there.

Question to you guys is...

If im looking for a cafe racer looking period car, would you leave the cooper s 'script' in or weld the holes and put the usual badges on for an 850 although i will be using a 1.3 / 1275 size engine

I kept the 850 export badge on my deseamed 1460 hill climber...

Looks like you have got the alloy boot lid fitting nice.....what are they like ...I have one to fit...or is it steel?

A better overall picture, few jobs have been done, front panel fitted, rear valance fitted, aley/ minimail cage in (not bolted up yet) unsure where to put it in the parcel shelf, if anyone can suggest a position?
Holes from the previous cosmic arches welded up, fog light hole in the boot lid welded, parcel shelf fully welded in and smoothed off.

Getting there now, need to order a pair of door skins as these are rusty at the bottoms and then a load of filler work.

Think the metallic paint suits the deseamed look...

What colour are you doing?

Got the first coat of raptor on the underside. Needed something to get the moral up, lots of filler work left to do before the final coat of raptor

Got the arch area and the insides of wing area to do next
