Easy things here for you, I am sure !

Following a old thread about my square head radiator, belonging to an 850, I assume.
I had it rebuilt with a new larger core. Fits OK.
This radiator has the taller "neck".
Was this the case with every square head radiator ?
In other words : is it "right" for my May-June '64 Cooper S ?

This neck has narrower openings in the outer rails on which you clamp the cap, than my previous later rad.
Hope you understand me despite my very approximative english.
So Rich, would MS part GRC 101 fit my rad ?

My second question is about the fan.
I have fitted a metallic six blades that I had in the shed.
Not too sure about its efficiency, wouldn't the later multiple blade be more efficient ?
Which again should be the "right" fan for my car ?

Finally, I have to change my Heater control valve - that fits on the head. It leaks which is embarassing.
It looks like I have a MS angled one, could you tell me again which should be the "right" part ?

No I do not intend to become an Anorak, would just like to know.
Not to do too much mistakes on a car that is better than ... I am.

I have only ever seen square top tanks with the longer necks.
GRC101 should fit fine.

I think that for France the standard 16 bladed steel fan would have been standard fitment in 1964, the plastic one (which is more efficient) didn't come in until a good few years later, possibly as late as 1968 - 9

A June 64 car could have has the early heater tap, or the later angled one. Both could be considered "right" for a car of that age.

To be honest I would fit a cap that can withstand a bit more pressure, only I don't think spares do those for the longer neck rads.

If you can get a 13lb cap that will fit use it. I have improvised this in the past by cutting a 3mm thick piece of cork gasket material & fitting it between the cap & the radiator, this compresses the spring a little more & raises the effective blow off pressure of the cap.

Just to add to Mark's tip re cork gasket one thing I have tried in the past with success is to borrow the rubber sealing ring off another rad cap and add this to the existing ie double up. It acts as a second gasket and if you are not able to lay hands on any cork this would give you an alternative. Just be careful when stretching the seal on and off. Hope this helps. Mark

Pressure was indeed my concern :
The chap who rebuilt my rad has found a suitable cap but standing 0,5 bars : did look just enough to me ...
MS cap seems a close match : if I am not wrong :
7 Lbs = 3,175 kg then, given the inner diameter of the neck is 28 mm, I have :
P = (3,14etc x (0,3175)) in daN / (1,4x1,4) in cm2 = 0,505 Bars.
Very similar.

I will try to find a stronger cap, and meanwhile try to adapt an extra seal to a MS one.
Will let you know.
