Well I think it’s time for a build thred.
I bought his 65 moke a few months ago. It was owned originally by the late Paul Simpson, a childhood family friend and the man that started my mini obsession 30 odd years ago I was aged 12 (I still have that car as well) after Paul died the moke spent 5 years with another moke club member unfortunately still degrading.
This project both price wise and condition was probably not one of my better moves but you have to start somewhere..

Unfortunately the shell was beyond economical repair (Andrew will disagree!), It was over £3000 in panels. I spend most of my time fixing other people’s classic cars so after family commitments getting the welder out was not an option for me.

Fantastic. The new shell looks very sweet - paint it, Waxoyl it to buggery and put it all together!

Is that a 970 block? I thought the S block had the two lugs on the oil gallery?

Its impolite to ask, I know, but how does the price of a full body compare to £3000 worth of panels?

Leo's stuff has an excellent reputation.

Lack of time is always my problem, I’d have loved to have welded it myself.
The panels I needed were £3000+vat and a mate that does an excellent job quoted another £3000 to weld it.
The new shell is £6000+vat and I’ve recovered nearly £2000 selling the old shell, some times I have to make the number £ add up!

That's not even man maths! it makes prefect sense.

As you know, I was tempted by the old shell as a 'rainy day project', but my common sense saved me.

What a nice thing to build up though.

Thank you for the positive input.
Hopefully it’s just a quick bit of fun build I’m sure there will be a few headaches along the way but that’s part of the fun.
I do sort of feel I’m cheating through when I see some of the other members marathon projects..

Hej! Nice Project!
Why cheating? I think if you know the work thats behind and apreciate it its not cheating.
