A couple of electrical problems?

Ive got a couple of problems that have stumped me...

The main one is that the dyno seems to run like a motor when the ignition is switched on? If I leave the ignition off it is fine, and I can bring it in/out by pressing the contactor on the voltage regulator. What could be causing it to run like a motor?

The second problem is with the lights. I can get side lights but when I try and switch to low beam nothing happens. Ive shorted out the wires to check the wiring is right to the lights, and the dip switch seems to be working ok. But nothing when I wire it to the switch? Im guessing its a faulty switch, but im not sure which terminals should be switching in each position to check it? Should the low beam lights only work when the engine is running?

I was also a bit unclear on where the red/white wire should go on the start button, so I connected it to the battery side with the brown wire that goes to the volt reg. Is this correct?

Cheers
Matt

the red/white is the trip for the starter, it goes from terminal '3' on the back of the switch to the single spade on the solonoid.

the lights should work without the engine running

no idea on the dynamo - that sounds odd!

Hi matt,
The dynamo problem sounds to me as if it might actually be the cut-out in the regulator or perhaps a wiring problem at the regulator. When the ignition is Off, there should be no power being fed to the dynamo.

Ive sorted the light switch out, it turned out to be a bad connection in the switch. I took it apart and gave it a good clean and it works a treat now. :D

Im still confused on the dyno problem though? Could it be because the polarity is wrong?
