What lenght pop rivets are needed for these,as something so simple is being a pain in the butt!!!!! they either end up too loose or the head pulls through the sill plate.

If its the "male" part of the carpet stud that you are trying to fix to the floor then take an old spark plug & remove the little terminal thing that screws on where the HT cap goes, slide it onto the shank of your pop rivet (I use 1/3 x 3/8" usually) & try riveting it now. You will find the spark plug thingy means that the rivet gets clamped properly, as I suspect your problem is down to the rivet gun & rivet not contacting each other properly. If trying this method means your rivet gun fails to grab hold of the shank properly, try shortening the spark plug thingy a bit & try again.

another top tip is dont kneel on one of the carpet clip crowns.

its hurts like hell, and its no fun trying to prize it out of your knee with a screwdiver either.

Does anybody know where you can get the longer parts of the fasteners? The ones used on the front carpets were longer or done with spacers.

The spacers are the same ones used for Mk1 Cooper S grill screw spacers and I don't think anyone does them. I bought some black plastic and turned some. I am pretty sure they are 1/4" but could confirm that.

Cheers guy, I will give that a go, and that Rich sounds like when I was building my sand rail, I did a nice weld with a stick welder and tapped the slag off then inspected the weld with my hand on the floor on top of the red hot slag!!! I had to get a screwdriver to dig if out doh.
