AUTOCROSS BOLTON-LE-MOORS MC 22TH MAY !??
Bolton-le-moors car club are going to run a clubsport autocross on sunday 22nd may. now i used to go and watch these as a kid, proper 60's /70's club motorsport. This is their first one, they have been running autosolo's recently and they are trying to appeal to people competing on these event's and to people who have rally car's but don't want to bash hell out of them.
I have contacted them and asked if they would consider a historic class. They have an Imp, MGB and beetle as possible entries so if there are enough then it's possible. They secured an excellent venue, leisure lakes near southport, so proper toilets, cafe etc ,etc. A smooth non damaging course, no car mods neaded, std road cars are fine, very little tyre and brake wear, a sociable day out. Car's run one at a time so no contact!!
All you need is an indate helmet, single layer overalls ( cheap on e-bay) gloves and mudflaps fitted. Away you go for a day's motorsport for a £35 I'm very interested in having a go in the 'Orangebox' , anyone else on here keen , then i can let the club know

Just to clarify the basic requirements
hi steve,
flame resistant overalls, dont need to be msa or fia spec, so the type autograssers and banger racers use is fine.
complete gloves, no open backs or fingerless, dont need to be flame resistant tho.
helmets, have to be msa spec, so helmets with the following stickers on them.
fia 8860-2004
snell sa2010
snell sa2005
snell sa2000
BS 6658 type A/FR
seatbelts, 3 point is fine, so the standard 3 point that comes in your every day car, you can use harnesses they dont have to be in date.
mudflaps behind all 4 wheels, extending 3.8mm either side of the tyre, and maximum of 7.6mm off the ground. they dont have to be the 4mm thick type rallycars use, they can be old rubber floor mats or anything that will work as a mud flap.
extinguisher, a 2L AFFF handheld is fine.
you can use standard seats or replace the drivers seat for a competition seat, the competition seat doesnt need to be msa or fia spec, and doesnt have to be in date.
if your car doesnt have laminated windscreen it can be replaced with polycarbonate, or just put wire mesh over it. my karmann ghia doesnt have a laminted screen, so i got some mesh from B and Q for £3
cheers
Rob

Not autocross, but good clips of rallycross of the early days here, Hillman Imp doing well as well as Minis,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mFcsSPR6wg
Good clip of what's-is-name having an arguement with Mabbs Bank at Lydden Hill rallycrossing in the 1970's at the start of this clip. Was it Keith Ripp? Was posted here before but have forgot.

edit - whoops, Mabbs Bank it is called, I think, not Mann's Bank.

Sorry for too many MINI'S in above last video.
But I have my eye on the BMW MINI's in rallying, because I like what they are trying to do - keep the name of the Mini car alive, and I think they are helping with spares and things, if people don't be so red indian about it, like.
Kris Meeke screaming in his Mini the other week in Wales. Looking forward how they do on the Monte next month, in the WRC Championsip next year, 2012. Hope it fecking snows and snows for the Monte, I truely do. Epynt and Kris,
