KAD quick shift fitting

Fellas,

I am just about to fit a KAD quickshift to my remote. The (second hand) kit came with 2 x long bolts and washers; chromed stick and plastic end cup, blue spacer with locating grubscrew.
Is there anything I should know or does it just bolt on? What bits of the existing gearchange do I have to keep and use?

Thanks :ugeek:

I've found it best to grid of a tiny bit of metal of the "ends" of the metal spacer. This will allow you to fit the top retainer upside-down, whilch in turn will make the gaitor fit better and/or allow you to fit a reverse gear lock-out (whilch inturn will have to be modified to cope with the shorter throw of the quick-shift.)

Oh, be sure to use Loc-tite and torque the bolts correctly.
Having lost one race due to the bolts working loose - I'll never do that again.

OK it didn't work last time so let's try again....

Patience is a necessary ingredient...

When I fitted my Quikshift I hated it.. unfortunately I couldn't get the nylon cup at the base of the lever out (and so couldn't re-install the standard lever) and so was stuck with it.

Now I wouldn't be without it....

Gate locks might be necessary for racing - never felt the need while hillclimbing- I reckon the increased precision of the quikshift meant reverse was even more out of the way than with the standard setup.

Cheers, Ian

I hope you've bought a new one, a low ratio quickshift. The old remote KAD ones were horrible.

dont worry , ive got an old one and you get used to it, so if you do have an old one its not the end of the world. just takes a bit more getting used too. :)

I’ve got an old one too and preferred it over the standard. Mines probably 15/20 years old and black onodised,
I guess the way to tell is the thickness of the spacer.

It looks exactly like this one 1013218 :)

It's now fitted but it feels slightly lumpy as you cross over from 1st/2nd to 3rd/4th. I think that the black sleeve is not fully home into the cup? :?
Cannot get reverse also :(

sounds like a bit of a bugger, its quite embarrasing having to open youre door and leg it backwards when ever you want out of a parking space

its not a 3 sync box is it? if it is take it out as you will spank first gear in no time at all !!

looks like youre going to have to go back to square one and look at it all with a new head.

Once you get used to it you won't want to go back..... I assume mine is the old version ... I've had it since the mid 90s.
