Hello

At some point somebody has painted my headliner. It is otherwise perfect albeit painted white and a bit yellowed underneath. I have tried meths and it works to dissolve the paint but it's proving to be hard work to get in all the cracks. Has anyone got experience doing this? Cheers,

Some guys in Spain, use owen cleaner (the spray/foam type) to remove paint from Scalextric cars.
they put it on, and leave it overnight, rinse in water next day, and the paint is gone
Some of these cars are VERY expensive and NO harm is done to the plastic, so maybe it can be used on headlining too??

you can try a fine brass brush for removing paint from the cracks.
for me it worked perfectly.......

Talking of paint on headlining, this was in the roof of a 1275 S I bought about 5 years ago (paid a whole £700 for it) it would be a shame to destroy it, what do you all think then.

The paint is coming off slowly. The material underneath is somewhat yellowed. I am not too concerned by this but I wonder if anybody has heard of any techniques for whitening a headliner? Bleach?

Vinyl paint. We probably have different brands to you, but VHT Vinyl Dye works a treat. It is funny stuff, much thinner in consistency than true paint, it tends to bond to the vinyl very well, I guess it is absorbed into it. It gives a great finish.

On Australian Minis its traditional for the headlining to be stained by the glue that was used to attach it round the edges. It looks like brown water marks all the way round. If its not stained its not original.

i think you should keep it, a gruffalo inspired headlining would send the mcr annoracks into orbit!

Don't use oven cleaner on a head lining. It will rot the stitching & the whole thing will fall to bits.

His eyes are orange , his tongue is black, he's got purple prickles all over his back
He's got knobbly knees and turned out toes and a poisonous wart on the end of his nose!

Brake fluid works quite well at removing paint from plastic, it would possible work well on vinyl too. It is usally applied and left for a while to soften the paint.
