I think that just about covers it.

Saturday was dry for a while by all accounts but Sunday was wet from the off. Matt Clark ran on Saturday as did Brian Dennis so didn't get any pics but I ran on the Sunday with Mick and Brian off here , Dave West, Mike Gallery,Roger and Paul Jones, Peter Barlow, and Paul Jones in his Britax lookalikey. Practice 1 was drenched, getting off the line took an age! Practice 2 was better and Timed 1 was drier again. The rain stopped and it dried out in the afternoon but unfortunately and to everyone's chagrin they made the decision to stop play after a couple of oil spreading incidents through the S's. Despite the weather it was another great weekend, huge variety of cars around and some great folk.

Here's a few photos my lad took on his phone and some I found online...

I think the weather wrecked quite a few outdoor events over the weekend Goff. Didn't make a huge difference to us in reality but certainly put a big dent in the visitor numbers this year for sure. The rally boys seemed to enjoy it sliding around the hill but really felt for the single seater drivers, they got a soaking!

As Pete said, pissed it down and then pissed it down some more which made it tricky for me as I’ve never done Shelsley Walsh before. I also had to use the stupid sandwich box on the bonnet to cover the carb to stop it sucking in more water than air
Couldn’t believe how steep the top S’s are :o Despite all that, really enjoyed the atmosphere, and my missus enjoyed the gin. Virtually had to drag her back to the tent like some kind of Neanderthal man, ha.
My times got better, and I was convinced that I could get a sub 45 in the last run, but somebody binned it and the meeting was cancelled. Although I was in a different class to Pete, finished 0.4 Sec behind him. His car was going really well.
Note to ones self.
Must check tyre pressures. Hmm.

Was it Russian vodka Brian cos Im sure I heard her speaking Russian at one point! . Shelsley looks easy and no doubt it is compared to many others but actually hard to put a perfect run together. I’ve never managed it! . First run I got my braking late for the Ss and invented a totally new line through bottom S. 2nd run fluffed a gear change and third run decided to lower the revs a little to try and curb wheel spin on the start (like ice!!) and bogged it. . Good job I only go for the craic and a few beers , no chance of getting near the quick Minis without a wider car, better rubber , a much lighter car and a modicum of talent would be handy!

Both Pete and I were running on R7’s, which to be honest I thought gave more grip than the A008s.in the wet.
I swapped tyres over at the last minute from A008s, but had over inflated them to recheck the pressure when I took the car off the trailer.

Ask me if I checked.

I’m amazed that I got round the first bend.

Just a quick heads up : I'll be organising a display of special Minis to celebrate the 60th birthday of the Mini at this meeting next year! PLUS I can confirm there will be a sizeable dedicated Mini/Mini derivative class for the weekend! I will also be inviting some special guests to come along and hopefully they will be interviewed live on stage and possibly drive some of their old cars up the hill. I'll start a seperate thread about this early next year with an early notification when the entries open.

I think this could really turn into a big event!! Early stages of course (well I only thunk it up a few weeks ago) but Shelsley seem very interested and if it's anything like the last time I did it in 2013 it'll be great. I actually think it'll be ALOT bigger than that though as the interest I've had so far has been very strong. A large chunk of the paddock seems likely to be given up for the Minis and the entry list both days. I'm hoping to invite some special cars and people and hopefully we can all be apart of a great weekend.

I'll confirm a date as soon as I can, it's either going to be early June or last weekend of July.
