Will there be any Mk1 PC devotees in attendance at the Gold Cup?

Not the cheapest day out but usually plenty to see.

Pretty cheap compared to most historic racing events, I should be there. :-)

That's the one, strikes me as probably the most affordable way of going historic racing now. Kind of ticking a box doing it, dad and I always said it would be a great way to spend a weekend...we shall see

I'm inclined to agree! Their grids are very well populated and a great variety of cars in contrast to HSCC's pre '66 saloons which now lacks variety and numbers sadly. I wonder whether the lack of variety or dominance by the usual suspects have put new entrants off, or maybe some of the expensive looking crashes we've seen caused by poor driver standards.?

It's the cost that put me off pre 66, realistically I don't think you could build anything to a standard seen on that grid now for much under £20k (and that would be an imp). The 70's road sports offers a huge list of vehicles to go at and oddly many seem to have been bypassed in the money stakes, people either wanting 60's or 80's cars.
I looked at lots of different series including mighty mini's and mini 7, but it wasn't ticking the boxes for me.
The 924 in relative terms has cost very little, competitive no not really, very tidy yes I'd say so,cost effective way into taking part and most importantly having fun ...oh yes :)

Probably £30k for a race Mini I’d say and that’s just to get on the grid. Another £10k if you want to be competitive! Anyone wanting a free ticket and bring their Mini etc along to the Gold Cup for the day can apply online here : http://www.oultonparkgoldcup.com/get-in ... -displays/

Looking forward to seeing you there. I shall be in my metal thing and hoping to have a sporty plastic thing for next year.

Just looked at the program for Monday, it's a bit of a touring car festival. You have the two HSCC pre-66 races with practice, the second Super Touring car race and the HTCC 1966-1990 Group 2 and Group 5 practice and race. Should be some good curb hopping at Brittens. I'll be there snapping away come rain or shine.

Another fab day at Oulton, cracking HSCC grid, weather was kind to the Mini boys in practice with Barry Sime on Pole and Tim 3rd, Barry claiming second in the 1st race and winning the 2nd, Tim's day didn't go as well, ill leave him to go through his day with you and hopefully some in car.

I took some pics paddock shots on my iphone (see below) , but Stu took 1500 action pics, and they will be worth waiting for

Highlights of our day was talking to Patrick Watts (racing a Capri today) about his ex works MG Metro Turbo he has, 250 bhp and he recons would have been on pole if he had brought it for he newer touring car race, hes rebuilding it for next year, says it will beat the M3s and cozzys !

Also seeing the British Vita Capri in the flesh

on the rally stage the V8 Firenza that Jimmy Mcrae's been using was a sight to behold and catching up with an old friend of mine .... VTV587J my MK3 Cooper S I built in 2000, I sold it in 2007, and was being used on the rally stage
