Any recommendations for quality mk1 door hinges please, are the repro ones all the same but sold by different suppliers at different prices?

If you can't find NOS Dave, look for an excellent original used one and re-bush it.

mini spares make a nice set

+1 on the MiniSpares set. I think all the repro ones on the market are made by MS.

There's been a few people grumbling about them lately, but I was quite impressed with the set I received recently. My original four hinges are in pretty good shape, but even re-bushed they weren't as tight and precise as the MiniSpares set.

At 90 GBP, it's a no-brainer for me. I'll put the originals on a shelf for now.

I have had good luck rebushing them, unless of course the original bush has worn enough for the pin to enlarge the hole.

I have a box full of hinges dose anyone know the numbers for n/s, I can sort of tell by looking but just want to confirm..

RHS 1/2 top, 5/6 bottom
LHS 3/4 top, 7/8 bottom


I would certainly rebush original ones. I sent back my MS ones because they were not very good. With the old ones I punched out the old pins and bushes, sandblasted and then zinc plated to protect the hinge area from rust. Then experimented with bespoke bushes but ultimately went for standard replacement bushes and reamed. I don't think they're bronze, more like brass, but reamed much more easily. I used Loctite 638 to secure both bushes and pins. Now very nice, no play and not going to rust. Bought UNF stainless studs from a2stainless.com together with Philips screws to complete the set. Find good pins though as the usual ones are too narrow. Very happy with mine now.

Any recommended sources for good bush/pins..?

We re-bush using MS pins and bushes. Very easy to do and it all stays original. 37H3043 and 37H3044 I think.
