if i didnt have bad luck, id have no luck
someone has it in for me big time!
my dads peugeot 205 van has finally died (after 21 years and 721,000 miles), he was a bit upset, so been a good son i treated him to another 205 diesel, he likes the economy and has all the tools, books and working knowledge, so its sensible to stick to the same!
this one was local, same colour, but a car (which is what he wanted). it was just out of mot, but came with the fail sheet - it was cheap enough and didnt need a lot - it was going well until sunday when a) my expensive welder popped arrggg!, and b) i wire brushed the sills and discovered that they both need work - arrrggggg!.
so, thats pending - should be mot'd next week
six weeks ago i did the clutch in my dads discovery (15 years and 180,000 miles, third time we have had the box out), this morning, going to work it broke the mainshaft in the gear box - arrrgggggg!!!!! thats the box out again, only trouble is thats its 400 miles away.
my dad is currently running my mothers rover, my mother is running my volvo, im slumming it in the mini sprint (which, touch wood, is going like a trooper at the moment).
if the rover pops, the only other car my dad can use is his 1930's rolls royce!
oh, and the bus has spunked all its pas fluid all over the floor, so thats got issues
im thinking of following football or something else.......

I know exactly what you mean. I had a week like that a while ago, but only thinking about it makes me depressed. I wish I were into stamps. They don't brake down.

Pah
Dont know what you are complaining about.
I've had more problems with by modern cars.
New gearbox in S-max at 80,000 miles/18 month old, umpteen electrical issues (doors wont lock, then wont unlock, wipers doing whatever they like - usually nothing), cant switch the lights off, CD's wont eject from the jukebox, dashboard randomly sitting in my lap when driving, hand brake cme apart, etc, etc.
Even needed a new 'box in a 30000 mile old Scooby (supposed to be ultra reliable - but I can blame the wife as its her car). Not to mention the Alarm fault and pre-heater replacement.
My cronky old minis are so reliable compared to my "reliable" moderns.
In fact, my Renault 5's (which at the time were considered "suspect" by the mags/trade) were so much more reliable than my moderns. One did 100k the other 170k and all they ever needed was a heather swicth. Still that's progress.

721,000 miles!
I bet you could fit + 20's in their without the need of a rebore. Thats bloody good going, and your dad certainly got his money worth out of that. Has he owned it from new?

Rich, have you thought about P/Xing your Dad? still, at least he has plenty options- imagine having to resort to the 'Rolls' - the poor soul.
Still, things can NEVER be so bad that you need to start following football.

Rich, I have three carsin working order (well, one is a resto job still) - none of them is allowed to be on the road W123 Resto job / Mini is SORN and suspected diff failure / W124 has no MOT (& needs quite a bit done)...
Which leaves me; my mums Smart, when she doesn't need it. Which is probably the most embarrasing car to drive around with
Cheers,
Jan

You can't have too many cars. Just too little space...

NO WAY!
Smart Cars are GREAT!
My Mrs had one & Rich & I had some great laughs in it, OK, its not the best handling car in the world, but god it's fun!
On a more sombre note, I'm sorry to hear about your latest car disaster Rich, as you say it seems to go from bad to worse at the moment. I hope you manage to get sorted soon. Good job you have a couple of days off booked. Looks like you may be able to give the Bentley the swerve again

i can still remember the complete look of horror on your face when we discovered that the smart would pass through a barely controlable lift off oversteer/snap understeer motion phase when traveling down twisty country roads a liitle, shall we say, too fast!!!!!
i honestly thought we where going over

Mark, I absolutely agree... I too scared a lot of my passengers, especially on the grippy 195 tyres... But I still think it's an emberrasing car - but hats of to the engineers - the cornering speed is astonishing for car like that!
