Hi all,

At fisrt, anoraks, please forgive me...

Let me introduce my young (compare to your MKI... ), Morris Mini MKII 850 Automatic..

I bought this car in 2000, with my first payroll (£300), to a teacher who prefers his 2cv to the mini... !

First sight in 2000, stucked between a Renault Dauphine and a Fiat 500D :

A+ 998, fitted with an AT.

Nice speakers !
Image

Some rust spots but the body is sound.
Image

I used it as is during 2 years, while I was a student, fitted a set of SP Sport and a Maniflow.
Image

Image

In 2002 I stored it in my dry garage, waiting for better days..

In 2005, my girlfriend at the time decided to restore it with my best friend, and offering it to me at Christmas.

Needless to say that she's now my wife... ! :D
Image

One of the most beautiful christmas in my life..

But the engine was still the good old 998 AT, wich runs smoothly, but with twisty roads toward my house it was cruel to use it like this..

And so, we're now in october 2010, I decided to give her a 3rd life..

Naked !

Paint (Beige El Paso)
Image

Loom and front subframe were replaced
Image

The engine is new and ready to be fit. It's a 1275 A series, took from an Innocenti, and completly overhauled.
Image

Image

The goal was to give her a "rally privateer" look

I'm still waiting to fit some Microcell Contour 6...

The car is far from being perfect, but it's OK to bring my 2 years old son having fun on winding roads.

Now THAT's a Christmas present! Looks great.

How did you wire up your kill switch on the dash? Is it a 4-pole (alternator and battery cutoff) or a 2-pole battery cutoff? Would be interested to see how you routed the wires.

Cheers,

W

Thanks for your comments,

Warwick, I used a flexible battery cable (from autoelectricsupplies ), and a 2-pole battery cutoff. The cable comes in the car near the gearstick. Without the flexible cable it was nearly impossible !

That is a really lovely car you have there. What wheels are you running? The black ones with the A008's, are they standard 3.5's or 4.5's? Good work. Love it.

WOW! Just fantastic! 8-) :D

Love the look! Perfect 8-)

Great photos too - thanks for sharing! :)

Can I ask about the baby seat in the back? How have you fitted the seatbelts to hold it in, can you share some pictures please? I have a two year old daughter who loves going in the Mini but I only have belts in the front at the moment so I put her car seat there. Just thinking about the best way to fit belts in the back of the Mk1 so that my daughter and wife can come along!

Chris

P.S. Is that your garage?

Yes, they are 4.5's from minispares, painted in glossy black

I'll take you some pics next week, but it's fitted with 3 points, first 2 points are under the backseat, the third is on the rear parcel shelf, it's not the ideal solution, but it's better than nothing I guess..

And yes, it's my garage, but at my parent's home (300 kms from my actual house..) !

Here's a pic of it with more minis..

Yeah, it's a 2 floors building, and the owner of the 1st floor had the good idea to destroy all the walls.. And what goes around... The 2nd floor was lowered of 2 inches ! :?

That looks great. I like the black rims, it makes the car look more aggressive.

yikes

my dad had this problem last year when his garage roof had a battle with a metre of snow.

it lost and collapsed, which didnt do any of the cars any good............

Pas mal, pas mal ...
It appears that black wheels are very fashionable this side of the channel, aren't they !! ;)
I got your mail, I'll do my best.

Thanks for all your nice comments !

I've also a pair of OEW wheels, and they also fit very well, but the beige/black combination makes the car "nastier"..

Not sure if I'll bring it to Beaulieu, or if I'll go with the "S"..
