Afternoon,
Just discovered a nice pic of a Team Lotus / Gold Leaf liveried Moke transporting a works Lotus 47a on the Autosport nostalgia forum...
This must be in the early 70's I guess (judging by the the Gold Leaf connection) although the Moke is on an E plate. Wonder where it is now? Someone here will be able to tell us the story I'm sure

Almost certainly 1968, the GLTL deal appears in January 68. In 68, GLTL ran the 47s in 35 races driven by John Miles, Jackie Oliver, Trevor Taylor and John Hine. The first 3 drivers drove for the F1 team at some point.
Intersetingly enough the moke is fitted with 4.5" s wheels, which makes you wonder what else is in there. Haven't the trailer rules changed?

indeed - can't help feeling that the mechanics must have had a tinker with it, considering the skills, tools and exotic bits available to them...
It may well have had a few 'interesting' mods in it's time!

Considering that Lotus was almost completely Ford orientated by then, only the Europa deal with Renault being non Ford. I would reckon any mods were by Players/Gold Leaf, there being no Mini goodies in the Lotus box of bits.

Great pic.
I believe the Moke hardtop was a Barton item?

That would have been a scary combination to drive. Mokes don't make great tow vehicles.

Well I suppose the Herald upright appears on the Elans etc and most Formula Fords, even iirc F1 Loti (18/21s). The BL internals (maxi) in the 5 speed box don't appear until Oct 72, but I suppose they did by door handles and the like from things like Marinas.
IIrc, Elan +2s did use an Elf back bumper, so there's a near mini bit getting used.
