These BMC Motor Show stand sectioned moving cut-a-ways were quite amazing.....I would love to know more about them, how they were planned, made and constructed.....sadly I guess most of them were scrapped soon after the motor show season ended.

Nice one Mab, I could watch that stuff all day ;)

The narrator chappie on a lot of those Pathe clips was Bob Danvers-Smith, probably one of the most recognisable voices ever.

All of the old 60's era 5 year apprentices used to do these sorts of projects. We certainly did. The class tutors would give a small group a brief of what he wanted to see, under the pretext of showing the inner workings to some big buyer somewhere - all a load of crap of course - so you'd go away and put all your skills - or lack of skills in my case - into practice. Really, they wanted to see how good your understanding of the item was. Whether you'd slice into an oil-way or a spring seating so something else wouldn't work. It was all labour intensive but the results looked really good. At Carlisle they used to give some of the sectionalised work to visiting dignitaries and all that sort of stuff. You really got to know youyr stuff though. Nice to see, especially for an old weary ex apprentice like me.

If an aftermarket alarm was installed the small key escutcheon was fitted to activate the alarm in the days before remote keys. Although most of the Minis I had with an alarm fitted back then had the key switch in the rear wing panel projecting into the boot area for ease of access to wiring, etc. (assuming you did not have a RH petrol tank)
