Morris mini cooper S 1965 Raced / rallied in USA
Hello all I have been referred to this site by the MCR as they believe there are more USA users here who might know about this cars history .
Does anyone recognize the license no as I'm told it was used on the car in the USA.?
It was exported new to France in 1965 then some how appeared in the USA pre 1981 - maybe bought in France by a US service person who took in back to the states ?
We know the last 4 users back to 1981 then the history dries up part from knowing the french car dealership who sold it new.
Any help would be greatly appreciated .

SGF is a London registration, issued in October of 1955, so that must be a private plate.

Hello it may have been on ebay both in USA and in UK . I bought it after it had been reworked in UK after many panels were replaced and it had a respray.rich@minispares.com wrote:ive seen photos of this car before (on here I think)

Its being returned to standard but there is evidence of many mods in its life plus the last owner believes in was raced in USA - maybe around the Atlanta area. The attached pic shows a weber air box in the bulk head. The engine has now been removed and a thin flange block sourced with a 333 gbox.
You can see the engine bay side panel has a blanking plate fitted - Don't know what this would be for . Some say extra cooling but I'm not sure Any ideas ?

That blanking plate on the inner wing may be for quick access to the flywheel area

Hi thanks for the reply . We looked at that but thought it was a bit high and why would it be such a big hole .mk1coopers wrote:That blanking plate on the inner wing may be for quick access to the flywheel area

that hole is too high for access to the flywheel, so I guess it was for wither a oil cooler or more likely a secondary radiator

Looks like it's the same material as the Weber box, so probably put in at the same time / or by the same person, oil cooler or secondary radiators are good calls, I was thinking more of general access (clutch adjustment etc) to that area from the side rather than getting the flywheel off

Good point about clutch adjustment because if the servo is mounted above the housing there not much room to set the adjustment.rich@minispares.com wrote:that hole is too high for access to the flywheel, so I guess it was for wither a oil cooler or more likely a secondary radiator

I know the Mini. There is quite a bit of information I included in my writeup when it was listed on the "Consignment -
For Sale by Owner" pages on my website.
https://www.miniguy.com/vehicles/category/consign-1/
(scroll to ID# RED65MK1S1275 on that page.)
I also put together an extensive photo gallery and posted an (edited) copy of the Heritage Certificate.
