Another FIA build for you all

Hi,

it would appear that every man and his dog are currently building 'FIA' cars at the moment, well I'm pleased to say that I am one of them. This one is being completed for a customer who currently races in another mini series.

The story so far:

The shell has in fact been a race car in a previous life before a huge crash which I think was Spa - some of you may recognise it from the photos. Anyway it was then purchased and someone has spent many many man hours trying to straighten and replace all the damage. They have done a fair job on a lot of the panels if it was to be used as a road car but unfortunately some of it was not up to scratch to be left for all to see with no interior to hide it. The most notable panels are the back panel, seat back and parcel shelf.

Some photos for you all to begin with, as we purchased the car:

[First job for me was to set about cutting the seat back and parcel shelf out, not an easy job when the cage is in the way and its taken a lot of fitting and fettling to get the seat back to 'slot' back into position around the Cage mounts.

Once I had cut it all out I went about converting a Heritage parcel shelf to make it into something that represented a proper MK1 panel.

a little trial fit of the seat back, worth a special mention to M-Machine for this as they were able to special press me a new one of these rather than one of there stock items so that I didn't have to go about trying to weld the holes in the panel to create a sealed fire wall.

Next up is making the seat mounts which will involve a bit of work to try and get the seat as central as possible, which is important for the slightly taller driver we have as prolonged seating off centre can cause some pretty bad hip pains. I couldn't resist putting a seat in and seeing how I look in the car though, just in case I ever get to share it! I have to say it fits me like a glove.
