Please can any body tell me what manufacture the shock absorbers were that Abingdon used on the works minis circa 1968/70.

And would Special Tuning also use the same as Comp's ?

I thought that they might possibly be Koni's ?

Cheers
Steve

To be strictly accurate, the shock absorbers by then were in the hydrolastic system. "Auxiliary dampers" were eventually used on the front to add some control to the hydrolastic system rather than act as dampers in the conventional sense. Those may have been Konis as I recall some red ones. On earlier dry cars I think (like all the other UK works rally teams in most of the 60s) they used Armstrong which, unlike Konis of the period, were adjustable on the car, at least for the rears.

They were still using the adjustable Armstrong in 1969.

The reason why I ask is I am doing a long turn restoration of an ex Special Tuning World Cup Rally Landcrab and wanted to know what shocks was fitted to minis in period.

As mini front shocks were fitted to the front of the works Landcrabs and I know the London-Sydney cars had Koni's on I was not sure what was fitted in 1970 by Special Tuning.

If they are Armstrong's can they still be got hold off ?

Cheers
Steve
