Goodwood Revival - St Mary's Trophy

Post by YMJ »

Any entries confirmed from "us lot" yet? I know a mate of mine who has been invited with his pre-war Aston (not in the StM, mind)

I'm not holding my breath and besides I haven't raced the FIA car since May last year

id never get an entry if I where the last mini racer on the planet

though to be fair, I don't think I would want the expense of making my car a 'goodwood spec' car

I thought the St Mary's Trophy was 50s saloons this year? Bit of a closed shop anyway from what I've seen, can't find any info on the website.

Yep expect some very wide looking 50s saloons cornering like they never did in the 50s!

I'll stick to the Settrington Cup this year, after my exploits in the St Mary's last year.

You're right, but I don't know why....did they skip a year for some reason? As it was an Odd number year (2017), I thought was a '60-'66 year (?)

A40s being the choice of the most discerning sporting motorist.

I reckon the Jordan's A40 will be somewhere at the front!

Jonny Lewis did really well in his A35 at the Silverstone Classic, nearly won it. Not on the entry list though and never has been.

I'd put my money on the neil brown/Gordon she'd do (predictive!) A35
It was fast at donnington last year

The Academy cars have not been given entries to the St Mary's, any 30s or 35s invited have to be Speedwell spec - apparantly they're just not fast enough.

That does make some sense, the one I've seen pictured testing at Goodwood recently certainly didn't look 'academy', wider wheels and a hefty front ARB. I'm sure the racing will be great again this year, it was across the board last year.

We run front ARBs, but they are standard off-the-shelf ones from Moss rather than a bespoke racing one.
The Speedwell ones are mounted the other way over too - ours pint up and theirs point down.

Just had a quick look at the live stream, very wet qualy. All A40 top four, Andrew Jordan 2.5s clear on pole, Rob Huff 2nd, Matt Neal 3rd.

Not sure what's going on with the Rob Huff car but the bubble front wheel arches are definately not OE! Rauno was 28th in the Minor, what a shame there isn't a quick Minor out there.

I would imagine the Jaaags overhauling the A40s in the dry tomorrow will make for a great race!

A very expensive spin.

The Anthony Bamford/Maranello Concessionaires 250 GTO had a spin in practice this morning. Frank Stippler had just set the fastest time and handed the car to Andrew Newall. On his out lap Newall got caught up behind Chris Harris (Top Gear) in a 250 LM, who braked early for Woodcote.

PS My money is on Andrew Jordan, even in the dry he can make that A40 fly.
